I have a particular passion and expertise for working with children and adolescents as they struggle to define their identities, cope with the rapid physical, emotional and psychological changes that take place within themselves and adjust to the demands of peers, schools, families and society. Adolescence can be a time of both disorientation and discovery. When seeing teenagers, I tend to work collaboratively with parents, the family, school counselors, pediatricians and others to provide an optimum level of care. I strive to incorporate a varying amount of family work when seeing children and adolescents as I find this to be a powerful medium for lasting change. My other passion and area of expertise lies in dealing with suicidal ideation, self-harm, depression, stress management, anxiety, grief/loss, trauma, and all that it encompasses.
I have obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Counseling with a minor in Intercultural Studies and a Master of Science in Clinical Counseling Psychology from Southwestern Assemblies of God University. I have dedicated seven years in the mental health field to walking alongside individuals and families in a wide variety of circumstances, including child victims of abuse/neglect, sexual violence, and psychiatric intensive needs. Every hour with each client has shown me the true tenacity of the human spirit – that we triumph and warrior on, throughout the most punishing and painful parts of this journey we call life. It is my deep passion to develop resiliency and empower each client to withstand distress and bounce back from difficult experiences.
I provide a non-judgmental, laid-back and compassionate atmosphere in which you can safely explore and work through feelings, thoughts, beliefs, conscious or unconscious, that may be keeping you stuck. I balance the counseling process with creativity, imagination and humor, along with practical solutions and concrete goals. I am eclectic in my orientation and offer a holistic, integrative approach to client-centered, strength-based therapy, using evidence-based psychotherapy techniques. I am a Level II Certified EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) Therapist. I utilize EMDR, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) and am an advocate for incorporating creative expressions through music, drawing, painting, movement or art making that enhances relaxation as part of trauma intervention, self-discovery, and stress reduction.
